Leveraging Bidirectional Links

Let's discuss the strategic use of connections between ideas while advocating for a more intentional, less link-heavy methodology.

The modern World Wide Web is built around of mono-directional links, where a link from one page to another only goes in one direction. Bi-Directional Links are different - both the destination page & the source page are visible to the reader. Makes it easy to move between related content. Link your notes to one another, that's how great ideas and great thinking come about, when you can see and understand links between different concepts.

The concept of socially aware links within your note-taking system can provide significant value.

It's important to remember that linking itself isn't the ultimate goal. The networked thought philosophy encourages connecting new notes to as many existing notes as possible, seeking patterns and relationships between learned concepts. However, this approach may not always deliver proportional value to the effort invested. Leverage bi-directional links but don't force it. It’s best to let ideas and networks of related ideas to gradually emerge, organically.
